Use #1: To Attach One Piece of Material to Another

This method will provide a solid connection between the two panels. 

If the hole created by the bolt is too small to fit a standard nut and washer combination, you can drill out the hole using an electric drill, then ream it down to size using a hand-held tool. Once the hole has been drilled, insert the bolt and tighten it with a wrench to prevent loosening. Be sure to keep the bolt from rotating while you do this, otherwise there’s a chance that the bolt could come loose.

A stud is a threaded rod that has a larger diameter than the rod that holds the threads onto the end of the bolt. By combining these two rods, you can create what’s called a “stud” assembly. Studs are usually made of steel, but aluminum and brass studs are available as well. 

Once you have the stud assembled, you simply insert it into the hole you’ve prepared in the two objects that are going to be joined.
